Audio/Video Technician

A.     Mission and Scope

The purpose of this position is to facilitate and enhance the experience of USSRC guests and employees by ensuring the effective and efficient operation of USSRC electrical exhibits and simulators.


B.     Qualifications

Education: High school or GED and completion of 2 year technical degree in electronics.


Work Experience: 12 – 24 months experience in maintaining and repairing electronic and Electro-mechanical devices OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have the ability to use the tools, equipment, and materials of the profession effectively and safely.


Knowledge of Windows and DOS based operating systems.  Must have knowledge of computer hardware (i.e. motherboards, hard drives, and memory) and how to install, repair, replace, and program.  Basic knowledge of networking, token ring, R-net, Ethernet desired.


C.     Physical Requirements of the Position

This position has the following special requirements:

  • Walking, Climbing (stairs) to access maintenance shop and other buildings.
  • Pushing, carrying, and lifting equipment up to 75lbs waist high.
  • Bending, kneeling, and reaching to repair / replace exhibits.
  • Sight, Reading, Wrist Movements, Feeling to inspect and repair exhibits, to operate tools of the field.
  • Talking, Hearing to communicate with employees, contractors regarding exhibits.
  • Driving skills to operate heavy equipment and forklift.
  • Comfortable working in heights of up to 160ft.


This position involves working in a climate controlled building environment.  This position will be subject to dusty, noisy environments and to the hazards related to the profession.  This position deals extensively with employees and contractors who interact with assigned area of responsibility.  This position may require occasional travel.

G.      Position Duties

Simulations Technical Support

  1. Systematically develop, design, inspect, install, and repair all USSRC equipment and simulator to maintain effective and efficient operation, safety, and appearance.  Equipment includes but is not limited to:
  • Technical.                        ·    Hydraulic.
  • Electro-mechanical.           ·    Pneumatic.
  • Audio / Visual.                  ·    Computer Peripherals.
  • Computer Hardware & Software.
  1. Develop, modify, and re-design technological simulators and circuitry including computer software ensuring effective and efficient operation, safety, and that modifications meet the needs of the USSRC.
  2. Design, install, and repair local area network communication systems for mission and motion based simulators ensuring effective and efficient operation and safety.
  3. Ensure the accurate and timely completion of exhibit technical requests.
  4. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Simulation Technician Supervisor for the installation, maintenance, and repair of audio and visual systems.
  5. Ensure the accurate and timely set-up, breakdown, and security of audio and visual equipment for USSRC programs and events.
  6. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Simulation Technician Supervisor for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
