The purpose of this position is to assist the Simulations Manager in the effective and efficient coordination of simulator activities and schedules in support of the camp programs.

This position reports to the Simulations Manager.

Your work is conducted at the USSRC in Huntsville, AL.

This position has primary responsibility for:

D. Required Results
  1. Meet or exceed standards for the safety, security and emotional welfare of participants that may normally be expected of a firm and judicious parent.
  2. Assist in the accurate and timely coordination of simulations schedules ensuring that activities run effectively and efficiently for all programs and participants.
  3. Assist in the training of the counselors and Simulations coordinators.
  4. Assist in the Technical support of the Mission Center Complex for power on/off and check-out of equipment.
  5. Ensure that counselors receive timely, relevant and appropriate training in the operation of simulators.
  6. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Simulations Manager for assisting in the development and implementation of simulator activities.
  7. Perform safety checks and complete required checklists prior to operating simulators to ensure effective and efficient levels of operation and safety.
  8. Promptly report any problems and malfunctions to Simulations Manager or Simulations Technical staff for repair.
  9. Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment for participants and employees.
  10. Ensure the Simulations department has adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
  11. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Simulations Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
Requirements

A. Special Requirements & Essential Functions (ADA)

This position has the following special requirements:

  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and experience all areas of the training center floor.
  • Standing for long periods of time (4-6 hours) or for duration of shift instructing and operating simulators.
  • Carrying and lifting equipment, supplies and objects up to 50 lbs. waist high
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching to store & retrieve supplies and operate simulators
  • Sight, reading, wrist movements and feeling to operate simulators and develop schedules and activities
  • Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisor, trainees and employees and to provide instruction on operation of simulators to counselors

 

This position involves working in a climate controlled building and office environment. This position will require working evening and weekend hours. This position is subject to the hazards of operating heavy equipment. This position deals extensively with employees and trainees who interact with assigned area of responsibility.

 

B. Recommended Preparation for Employment

I. Education

High school or G.E.D. plus 2 years of formal education beyond the high school level required.

 

II. Work Experience

Leadership experience of 1 season at the Space and Rocket Center or equivalent non USSRC management work experience and 1 season as a Space Camp, Academy, or Advanced Academy counselor required. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and handle heavy equipment. Must be organized and professional at all times. Must have excellent verbal communications skills to instruct employees in the operation of simulators.

 

III. Computer Skills

Basic skills using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
