Museum Lab Coordinator 

A.Mission and Scope 

The purpose of this position is to ensure that Spark!Lab and all hands-on labs, educational materials, activities, and projects developed for supporting camp, museum, and outreach efforts at the USSRC meet standards for educational quality and reflect the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the USSRC.  This position will also ensure technical accuracy and thoroughness for all educational materials. 

B.Qualifications  

Education: B.S. Degree in Education Required (science discipline preferred). Teaching Certification is preferred. 

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of closely related work experience in a classroom setting or in curriculum development required. Familiarity with maker space areas required. Candidate must possess a sincere interest in science and space exploration. Candidate must have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. 

Behavioral and Performance Skills: Candidate must be organized, imaginative, curious, creative, innovative, flexible, energetic, and charismatic.  

Computer Experience: Must be able to use 101 key keyboard, computer knowledge must include but should not be limited to Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint. 

C.Physical Requirements of the Position 

This position has the following special requirements: 

  1. Walking, climbing (stairs) to access other departments & buildings and to experience the training center. 

  1. Sitting and Standing for long periods of time developing and presenting lectures. 

  1. Carrying, Lifting equipment and supplies up to 25lbs waist high. 

  1. Bending, Kneeling, reaching to store / retrieve supplies. 

  1. Reading, Sight, Wrist Movements Feeling to operate computer terminal, research & review lecture materials, operate automobile during travel. 

  1. Able to present lectures, answer questions from students, assist guests, and interact with employees. 

This position involves working in a climate controlled office environment and walking to / from buildings in various weather conditions.  This position may require occasional travel to educational conferences.  This position deals extensively with employees and trainees who interact with assigned area of responsibility.  This position deals extensively with small children.

H.  Position Duties 

  1. Educational Content & Curriculum Development 

  1. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Museum Operations Manager for the research, development, and integration of new materials and technologies for the development of hands-on labs 

  1. Ensure educational quality and technical accuracy of all activities and materials for Ultimate Field Trip programs 

  1. Ensure all activities meet or exceed Academic Standards for Educators. 

  1. Work with Museum Operations and Planning and Logistics to coordinate the logistics of the lab schedules 

  1. Promote an environment which engages students and facilitates learning  

  1. Responsible for ordering supplies for classroom and Spark!Lab while maintaining fiscal responsibility with regards to the museum budget 

  1. Training 

  1. Coordinate/Assist in the training for Museum Guides (e.g., hands-on labs, Spark!Lab, safety measures, lesson plans, how to use equipment and technology, cleaning expectations, and proper storage of tools, equipment, and supplies 

  1. Ensure museum staff receives timely, relevant, and appropriate information for labs and activities
