Camp Operations Supervisor


A.      Mission and Scope

The purpose of this position is to assist the Space Camp program management team in the supervising of counselor staff, trainees, and program activities.  To ensure these activities reflect the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the USSRC and meet the needs of all the Aerospace programs.  This position is a year round appointment to cover the needs of the Space Camp program.


B.      Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of college or an Associate’s degree.


Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years working in a children’s or educational camp environment with previous managerial experience. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with trainees and counselors.  Must be organized, professional, and action oriented.  Must have the ability and patience to interact with persons of all ages from children to adults.


Must be able to us a 101 key keyboard and possess knowledge of DOS and Windows based operating systems; including some basic associated software applications (i.e. Excel and Microsoft word).


Must possess the ability to interact and lead trainees ages 9-12 years old.


C.      Physical Requirements of the Position

This position has the following special requirements:

  • Walking, Climbing (stairs) to access other departments, buildings, and to experience all areas of the training center floor and museum.
  • Swimming to engage in the activities portion of camp programs.
  • Standing for long periods of time (4-6 hrs) directing counselors and trainees, conducting lectures, operating simulators.
  • Pushing, Carrying, Lifting boxes, supplies, equipment up to 50lbs waist high.
  • Bending, Kneeling, Reaching to store/retrieve supplies.
  • Sight, Reading, Wrist Movements, Feeling to operate simulators, review schedules, write reports.
  • Talking, Hearing to instruct counselor, trainees, and assist guests in person and over the telephone.


This position involves working in a climate controlled office environment and building.  This position will involve walking to/from buildings in various weather conditions.  This position deals extensively with employees and guests who interact with assigned area of responsibility.  This position interacts extensively with small children and adults.  This position will require the knowledge to effectively and efficiently operate all simulators designated by management.

H.      Position Duties

  1. Run day to day operations of all camp programs.
  2. Dispatch staff accordingly throughout the campus to cover all needs of the camps and troubleshoot any issues that might arise.
  3. Assignment of duties on the weekly staff support schedule.
  4. Execution of any emergency action plans.
  5. Verify and execute the wake up and lights out plan.
  6. Compiling and entering all shift notes to ensure proper communication between shifts.
  7. Selection of weekly camper and staff awards.
  8. Trainee Discipline up to the point of parent phone calls.
  9. Staff Counseling and behavior up to the point of verbal write-ups.
  10. Investigation and documentation of camper issues to include incident reports and decampment justification.
  11.  Fulfill any roles as assigned based on USSRC needs.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
