Camp Operations Manager

 

A.      Mission and Scope

The purpose of this position is to assist the Space Camp program management team in the supervising of counselor staff, trainees, and program activities.  To ensure these activities reflect the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the USSRC and meet the needs of all the Camp Operations.  This position is a year round appointment to cover the needs of the Space Camp program.

B.      Qualifications

Education: BS Degree in Business, Communication,  Education, or closely related field or equivalent work experience in a closely related field.

 

Experience: Min of 2 years closely related work experience in a similar camp environment with 1 year at the managerial/supervisory level OR an equivalent combination of experience and education in a similar environment. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with guests and employees.  Must be able to lead, direct, budget, and schedule staff and resources.  Must have excellent and proven leadership skills; must have developed and conducted training programs; must be highly motivated and an outstanding role model and motivator.

 

Computer Experience: Must be able to use 101 key keyboard, knowledge of DOS and Windows based operating systems.   Must be able to use word processing and spread sheet applications.

 

C.      Physical Requirements of the Position

This position has the following special requirements:

  • Walking, climbing (stairs) to/from other buildings to access other departments and to oversee, observe and interact with guests and employees.
  • Standing to address guest issues or assist staff in assigned areas.
  • Sitting for long periods of time (4-6 hrs). 
  • Carrying, lifting items and supplies up to 20 lbs. shoulder high.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching to operate simulators and retrieve supplies.
  • Sight, reading, wrist movements, feeling to operate computer terminal, cash register, etc.
  • Talking, hearing to instruct employees and assist guests in person and over the telephone.

This position involves working in both a climate controlled office environment and outside where exposed to various weather conditions and changing temperatures.  This position deals extensively with the public and employees throughout the organization.

G.      Supervisory Standards

H.       Position Duties
  1. Meet or exceed the standards for the safety, security, hygiene, and emotional welfare of participants that may normally be expected of a firm and judicious parent.
  2. Evaluate Space Camp briefings, lessons, and staff performance, and correct teaching methods when needed.
  3. Conduct training and retraining of Camp curriculum.
  4. Assist in staff development.
  5. Address and document staff disciplinary issues through written warnings and Professional Development Plans.
  6. Assist in the coordination and supervision of weekly registration, graduation, and program activities to ensure that activities run effectively, efficiently.
  7. Supervise trainees during offsite activities.
  8. Assist other departments in a timely, effective, and efficient manner as duties relate to all camp programs.
  9. Ensure that trainee and chaperone evaluations are downloaded from Google Docs and organized in their respective program destinations.
  10. Ensure that trainee decampments are performed following the proper procedures.
  11. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  1. Limited assistance in the discipline of trainees.
  2. Assist with registration, orientation, and graduation.
  3. Monitor daily program activities. Conduct briefings as required.
  4. Addressing concerns brought by parents, trainees, and counselors.
  5. Training of new crew trainers.
  6. Lead enhancement/development of camp programs.
  7. Assist security with moving trainees to designated locations under the threat of severe weather and other emergency situations.
  8. Assist Trainee Services with the delivery of messages and mail.
  9. Assist habitat staff in maintaining the cleanliness of trainees’ rooms, counselor facilities, and common areas.
  10. Assist program directors with the coordination of pictures and video vendors.
  11. Coordinate materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure that Aerospace Programs have adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
