A.       Statement of Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to provide prompt, courteous and professional service to guests, trainees and employees and to operate simulators in an effective, efficient and safe manner in the museum and Rocket Park that reflects the Mission, Vision and Spirit of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
The position reports to the appropriate Guest Services Manager but actively participates as a part of a team, which includes ticket desk representatives, museum guides, and other departments within the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. This team effort is to broadly organize, plan, and execute the appropriate mission for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. 
 
B.  Qualifications: 

Education:  High School or G.E.D.  Must be at least 18 years of age to be certified for operation of simulators.
 
Experience:  At least 3- 6 months experience working with the public required.  Must possess excellent verbal communication skills to interact effectively and courteously with the general public.
 
Availability: Must be able to work 22+ hours per week between the times of 8:45am-5:15pm. May require evening shifts and must be able to work weekends.
 
C.  Physical Requirements of the Position 

This position has the following special requirements:
  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to operate simulators, access other departments and experience all areas of the facility.
  • Standing for long periods of time (6-9 hours).
  • Carrying and lifting equipment, supplies, and objects up to 30lbs waist high
  • Bending, kneeling and reaching to store & retrieve supplies and operate simulators.
  • Reading, seeing, wrist movements, feeling to operate simulators and complete safety checks.
  • Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisors, guests, trainees and employees in person and over the telephone; answer questions and conduct presentations.
  • Must be able to operate museum simulators free of fear or anxiety for the safety of our trainees and guests
 
This position involves working in both a climate-controlled environment and outside where exposed to various weather conditions and changing temperatures.  This position deals extensively with the public, trainees of all ages, and employees throughout the organization.

E.       Position Duties
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the museum management staff for providing guests with a quality museum experience and efficient operation of all museum simulators.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the museum management staff for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
  • Complete opening and closing check lists and promptly report any malfunctioned or damaged artifacts and exhibits to museum mgt or technical staff.
  • Operate museum exhibits for the public in an effective, efficient and safe manner.
  • Continuously patrol the museum area and promptly assist guests and answer questions in a manner that reflects the Mission, Vision and Spirit of U.S. Space and & Rocket Center
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment for guests and employees.
  • Perform safety checks, complete required checklists proper to opening simulators to ensure correct and safe operation.  Ensure that simulators are operated correctly and on schedule.
  • Report any simulator problems or malfunctions to the Simulations Supervisor or Simulation Technical staff in a timely manner.
  • Conduct accurate verbal presentations to guests and trainees regarding the nature and operation of simulators in a manner that is understood by all.
  • Other duties as assigned, , e.g. character costume presentation
