Executive Director

The Executive Director is the key management leader of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Education Foundation (USSRCEF). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, alumni relations, and administrative support. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors, and works closely with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s (USSRC) CEO, VP of Advancement, and VP of External Relations.




  1. Board Governance and Engagement: Works with board to fulfill the mission of the organization.
  • Responsible for leading the USSRCEF in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission, as defined by the Board of Directors in alignment with USSRC’s mission.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and USSRC CEO and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions
  • Works with the Board officers to cultivate maximum member engagement


  1. Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources to ensure the financial health of the organization and support USSRC-lead projects and initiatives.
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the USSRCEF to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization
  • Responsible for fiscal management that anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. Reports in a timely manner any and all conditions which may indicate or lead to poor financial conditions.


  1. Organization’s Mission and Strategy: Works with the USSRC’s CEO and VP team, Foundation Board, Space Camp Alumni Association, and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and outreach.
  • Design, implement, and guide a comprehensive development plan to increase, enhance, and sustain philanthropic giving in the following areas: current donors, new donors, major gifts, planned giving, and alumni financial support
  • Set and execute the vision and long-range strategic plan for the Foundation to align with, and provide maximum support to, the USSRC
  • Responsible for the enhancement of USSRCEF’s image by being active and visible within our giving community
  • Support corporate giving in partnership with USSRC.
  1. Organization’s Operations and Management: Direct the overall operation of the Foundation and its staff.
  • Responsible for effective administration of USSRCEF operations
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff with concurrence of USSRCEF Board and USSRC management
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into, on behalf of the organization


Professional Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree, with advanced degree preferred
  • CFRE (Certified Fund-Raising Executive) designation desired
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Proven track record of large scale fundraising success
  • Five or more years senior non-profit or comparable management experience
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation
  • Ability to convey the vision of USSRCEF’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, and donors
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Demonstrate ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability


Actual Job Responsibilities:


  1. Align the foundation and its resources to the overall vision of the USSRC as crafted by its leadership
  2. Report to, and work closely with, the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising, and to increase the overall visibility of the Foundation
  3. Work with the Alumni Association Board to execute long-term engagement and fundraising goals within alumni community
  4. Identify prospective donors, strengthen relations with current donors, recruit new donors, and increase the overall visibility of the Foundation
  5. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate the major gifts, planned giving, and alumni giving programs
  6. Lead and manage foundation staff in effective implementation of all programs
  7. Planning and operation of annual budget
  8. Serving as USSRCEF’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the public
  9. Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the state, and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance USSRCEF’s Mission
  10. Oversee organization of Board and committee meetings
  11. Oversee marketing and other communication efforts
  12. Review and approve contracts for services
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors
